CONSOLE MENUS FOR LINUX VERSION 0.1
THIS SOFTWARE COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY WHATSOEVER !!
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!!

The Console Menus are a collection of bash-shell (version 2.0) menu-scripts for Linux.

INSTALL:
Change to the directory where the conmen RPM is located.
Install with "rpm -i ./conmen*". Type cm.
You can change settings in the CHANGE CONFIGURATION menu.

The Console Menus won't run without cdialog
This can be downloaded from http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/utils/shell/
Compile it and put it in /usr/bin or use the RPM that comes with
some Linux distributions.

The menu entry for your Window Manager only works with Xdialog.
If you want this to run with Xdialog ( http://xdialog.free.fr/ ),
you have to install the wrapper that comes with the Xdialog package.
If X is running it will then automatically execute Xdialog.
Be warned, however, that not everything from my scripts works with Xdialog yet,
but I'm hoping to fix it soon.

The small program "qprompt" is required for some menus.

Also, I recommend installing kcd on your system, it will
make directory selection a lot easier.
It can be obtained at the kcd home page: http://kcd.sourceforge.net

Some things for users won't run without sudo.

Things these scripts do:
--Play MP3's with mpg123.
--Encode WAV's/MP3's to MP3 with LAME.
--Batch convert MP3 files to WAV files with sox and mpg123.
--Set ID3 info tags with id3ed.
--Record and Rip CD'S with cdrecord and cdrdao.
--Make a TOC file for cdrdao.
--Turn a soundcard on or off (sb16, sbawe, sblive) with different drivers.
--Change and save mixer settings for different soundcards/drivers (with aumix)
--View a Photo-CD with pcdvieuw (from package xpcd).
--Batch resize graphical image files, with ImageMagick's convert.
--Print graphics with the XW-TOOLS (I use a Canon BJC 6000, if you have
another printer you have to edit things, XW-TOOLS can be downloaded from
  http://home.t-online.de/home/jj.sarton/start.htm)
--Run lxdoom, quake, quakeworld and quake2 from a menu, save settings and
  "savegames" in users home directory.
--Run lxdoom, quake, quake2 from an X Window (type "sudo runlxdoom",
"sudo runlxdoom 2", "sudo runxquake", "sudo runxquake 2" in an xterm").
As you can see, you need "sudo" for this if you want to run it as user.
--Compile a Kernel, copy it to kernel-install-path and run LILO in one go
(you can keep different source trees).
--Remove backupfiles.
--Query your RPM database and write it to a file.
--Turn Harddisk DMA on or off with hdparm (not very useful).
--Make floppy-images.
--Copy MBR to a floppy and restore MBR from a bootfloppy.
--Do various other things with your floppy disks (all respectable, of course).
--Show Proc-info
--Start and Kill and internet connection (multiple accounts),
chatscripts, resolv.conf, and ppp-options will be generated automatically.

All these things can be turned on or off by root for different users.

You can put /usr/bin/conmen in your /etc/passwd file to use this program
as a shell for users . You can then, if desirable, grant users acces
to shell commands by turning on the Shell Acces option in the user control.

If anyone knows how to set things up in a better way, then please
drop me a note at cchq@wanadoo.nl. or just send me your modified versions.
I'm interested in your opinions, Good, Bad or Ugly.

M@X, cchq@wanadoo.nl
